Introduction:
Inflight Medical Emergencies are common. Immediate and appropriate actions are
essential to ensure any passenger experiencing a medical condition receives the
necessary assistance and access to medical support in a timely manner. For this
reason Flight Attendants must have thorough knowledge of Aviation First Aid and the
available resources and equipment onboard. In addition, Flight Attendants must be
able to identifying medical conditions and must be able to respond confidently to the
medical emergency following safety procedures and First Aid protocols.
Outcomes:
Upon completion of this exercise you will be able to:
• Demonstrate knowledge of Aviation First Aid
• Understand the importance of Aviation First Aid Training
• Identify common medical emergencies
• Demonstrate knowledge of available resources and equipment
• Respond quickly to a medical emergency during flight
Methodology:
This exercise has the potential to build your confidence in handling a difficult and
stressful medical situation. As a group or individually you will be assigned a medical
condition (topic) You are required to research the medical condition using your FAM
and other internet resources to prepare a presentation, no more than 5 minutes in
length.
Your creativity is encouraged and you will have the flexibility to act out a medical
scenario if desired, use a power point presentation, present a mini lecture, or create a
video. Visual aids are encouraged. When preparing this assignment prepare as if you
are the crew member at 36 thousand feet with a medical emergency.
This presentation must include and cover the following:
1. Describe and explain the nature of the medical condition including signs and
symptoms
2. Describe the first aid protocol and procedures you would follow in such medical
situation
3. Describe and explain how you will react and address the medical emergency
4. Describe and explain the medical resources and equipment available to you
onboard the aircraft, and how your will use them to assist the passenger with

Evaluation:
The presentation is worth 15% of your final mark. It will be graded on how well the
group or you individually address all the required components of the exercise.
The attached rubric will assist you in preparing and coordinating the presentation.
