· How will I comply with the legal, professional, and ethical obligations associated with classroom management?
Proper classroom management is a critical facet in building a conducive atmosphere for learners. Teachers may, however, be faced with legal, ethical and professional challenges in the course of managing students due to varied ethnicities that force them to cross over the above-mentioned boundaries. Therefore, it is incumbent upon the teacher to have an absolute understanding of the apparent implications and institute pragmatic techniques to comply with the legal, ethical and professional confines posed. It is further crucial to note that different localities and school districts have diverse laws, cultures, and norms that require strict compliance and specific tactics to ensure successful classroom management (IvyPanda, 2020). For example, corporal punishment is outlawed in some societies by acts of parliament, and the educator must be cognizant of such laws to avoid dismissals when instilling discipline to learners who have acted immorally.
Additionally, the instructor must be aware of the fact that most public and private schools have strict policies that bar teachers from verbally abusing the learners and have a zero-tolerance to bullying. Also, all schools have professional, legal and ethical guidelines that the instructors can utilize in successful classroom management which include how to administer punishment, reward systems, communication avenues, and teacher-student interaction models, among others. The teacher must communicate the school rules as well as student roles and responsibilities so as to have an all-round understanding of the legal, ethical, and professional dictates across the learning institution leading to effective classroom management (IvyPanda, 2020).
· What will I do to establish positive relations and develop trust with my students, my colleagues, and my students’ caregivers?
Colleague teachers, students, and the student’s caregivers form the larger learning environment and play a critical role in the molding and development of a student throughout their academic career. Consequently, a teacher’s success depends on the relationship formed and the trust built with the workmates, the learners, and the caregivers. To achieve academic success, the instructor must develop respect, trust, and a watertight relationship with the students from the onset. A teacher needs to enhance good relations and trust with all the players in the learning circle.
Building positive relations and confidence with the students may take some time. From the first day of the school year, the teacher must employ short- and long-term learning strategies to earn the students’ trust and professional respect. Some of the activities geared towards enhancing trust and building positive relations with students include providing a proper learning structure that actively engages the students through the coursework and makes learning a fun exercise. The teacher must also show passion and enthusiasm, have humor, introduce storytelling sessions, and treat each student with the utmost respect (Meador, 2021).
In relation to the colleagues, working together with mutual understanding and respect enhances trust and leads to a positive working atmosphere. Activities such as forming a birthday committee professional networking groups, engaging in team-building exercises, sharing positive thoughts and feedback with team members, and avoiding gossip and suspicions at work are great recipes for enhancing trust and building long-term positive relations (Chad, 2020). Finally, the teacher must also earn trust and engage positively with the caregivers. This can be achieved through effective communication with the caregivers on the students’ progress, learning their names, and addressing them with a smile utilizing their first names. The caregivers appreciate these initiatives and result in a pleasant and friendly relationship.
