After completing the learning activities, please

• In the Discussion Board, attach the rubric and respond to the following two prompts:
  • After adding the priority standard and the secondary standard, describe how the alignment to the standards support you in making appropriate and accurate instructional decisions to meet the needs of your students. How does the standard support the building of your practice? How does it connect to the subject matter and the content? Provide a rationale for your response using evidence from any of the resources or additional materials you have access to in the course. 

• Highlight in the curriculum where there are recommendations for special education, English as a New Language (ENL) learners, and gifted and talented. How was it referenced? Is this enough or was it not referenced? How would you ensure that these students have equity and access? 
• What attributes in the rubric show you that the curriculum is HQ, or has a gap? 
• Using the rubric, determine strengths and gaps of curriculum
  • After analyzing the curriculum, what evidence do you have that indicates if the  curriculum is effective or high quality? 
• If you are not in a school, a curriculum will be provided for you. 

Module 4: Learning Activities

In this module you will engage in understanding how curriculum works and what adjustments, modifications or accommodations you will need to make to support your students. You will use a High Quality Curriculum (Links to an external site.) evaluation rubric to evaluate resources you will use for your lesson. Before you begin planning, you will take a critical look at the resources that you have and choose an appropriate lesson from the curriculum. As you are looking at the curriculum think about these questions. These questions should be in your head as you plan. These are the habits of mind an effective educator needs to have: 

How will I provide access to the content? 

How am I going to make my thinking visible for my small group? 

What anchor charts and exemplars do I need to provide visual support?

How will I scaffold and question to promote thinking? 

How will I monitor how the student is learning? 

What authentic tasks will students engage with to have an opportunity to apply what they are learning? 

What tool will students use to monitor and self-reflect their own progress?

Based on your understanding of the standards, what resources and materials will you use to support student learning? How did your knowledge of the student inform your decisions?

• Read: Standards aligned and Benchmarked curriculum from your placement or from resources provided in course. (eg.Vision Math (Links to an external site.), Amplify Science (Links to an external site.), Expeditionary Math (Links to an external site.), Eureka Math (Links to an external site.), HMH core (Links to an external site.) curriculum)
• Review Ed Reports (to see the evaluation of curriculum and the level of effectiveness) (Links to an external site.)
• Determine the appropriate standards from the curriculum that you are using in your school
• If you are not in a school, please use the Next Generation Standards (Links to an external site.)
• Add the priority standard and add the secondary standard to the lesson plan and in the discussion board. (The secondary standard will be a literacy standard, regardless of the content)
