Three Perspectives on the Evolution of Technology
Social Impact of Technology SO
The story of technological advancement differs from one expert to the other. Although most have distinct views, they all concur: “human influence is vital.” The ongoing inclination toward technology, parallel to the expansion of social progression is at the center to our evolution. Modernization results from innovations born out of individual needs to fill up a void of nonexistent product or services that is used to beautify, increase, simply everyday life. With inventions come the need to understand the mechanism of every components and the passing of knowledge that can be taught and explained with the continual need of perfection of previous versions. Our Essay will be focusing on three different school of thought of: Gerhard Lenski, Leslie White, Alvin Toffler, and their perspectives on high-tech enhancement in the modern world.
It is Gerhard Lenski belief the advent of technology is the motivating factor in the advancement of society. According to him: “technological progress and civilization are closely related. In fact, the key to human progress is information. The more we know about harnessing and using natural resources, the more we can advance human society.” (Measuring Technological Progress Lecture note 8 courses.portal2learn/content/enforced/10698- SO245_21_1/_course-system-files/Lesson_08/Lecture%20Notes). Hence, the more advance the knowledge possessed by culture, the more incline to innovation this civilization will be. Information is thus an important component in the shift from one industrial level to the next. Following Lenski idealistic, “society perseverance for advancement find its roots in the level of technological expansion in connection of its inner competitions.” As such, a civilization with greater scientific improvements has greater odds compare to those on the other end of the spectrum. To conclude our thoughts on Lenski let’s look at his four stages of human
advanced through the first two initial stages – (agrarian and industrial) – which were long and challenging in every facet even at a psychological height. If we follow Toffler school of thought society is now going through the third wave or the knowledge stage dominated by substantial alterations of the human intellect impacting to the modern evolution of the financial system and civilization.
To conclude our discussion, we can say with an absolute resolution despite their different views, Gerhard Lenski, Leslie White, and Alvin Toffler all agree that technology is at the core of social development as the correlation between them goes hand and hand. The need to advancement emerges from innovations born out of the need to resolve social problems. The continual need to solve an issue and the pressure of progress has steered many changes in society resulting in better, faster, improve ways to generate a result, view advancement and understand our surrounding. Knowledge is power!

At this final stage, the culmination of progress and enhancement result in a well-established society, with a way to harness natural resources, and a well-rounded socio-political system. Leslie White, views on technology is as an element of civilization added to beliefs and social behavior in a constant motion of evolution and changes. Based on Leslie approach, societygrows in correlation with the amount of hard work and determination collectively produced per person per year. In other word, the harder each member of society works together the more develop this society will be. He perceives technological advancement as an expression of transformations related to attempts made by people to solve social problems to improve survival.Furthermore, White states that the correlation that exists between technology, culture, and societyis forever shifting to create the ultimate cultural evolution. This cultural evolution is echoed in the higher efficiency, supported by elevated momentum generated for the optimization of society.Alvin Toffler is well known for his concept of “future shock” and amongst the scholars emerging after the industrial revolution. His perspective on technology is defined in stages or a “wave” that is an avant-garde and pecuniary transformation happening in a short period of time within society. Those “waves” or “stages” identified by Toffler include: the agrarian revolution, industrial development, and postindustrial growth. He maintains that societies have already
